Gulfport Big Weekend provides a something-for-everyone celebration spotlighting the downtown district, local businesses and Gulf Coast culture. Gulfport Big Weekend kicks off Friday, October 1, with Hancock Whitney Sea of Stars for Mississippi Aquarium, one of Coastal Mississippi’s premiere attractions. At Hancock Whitney Sea of Stars, 500 drones launched over Jones Park and choreographed to a soundtrack of classic and modern tunes will light up the night Gulf sky with three-dimensional displays reminiscent of Mississippi Aquarium resident animals such as alligators, dolphins and turtles. The evening culminates with a brilliant fireworks show. The lights and fireworks show begins at 8 p.m.Īdmission to the Jones Park event is free, with families, groups and individuals encouraged to set up blankets and lawn chairs early to watch the show. Attendees can purchase food from one of 20 food trucks lining Jones Park and presented by the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce and food provider partners. Food truck vendors will open at 5 p.m., with live music by Rhythm & Rain. Hancock Whitney Sea of Stars sponsors and Mississippi Aquarium patrons have the exclusive opportunity to watch the drone lights and fireworks show from premier viewing spots throughout the Mississippi Aquarium campus during a 6-9 p.m. sponsors and patrons party with upscale cocktails, coastal cuisine, animal encounters and other experiences unique to the Aquarium. ![]() Tickets to the sponsors and patrons party and sponsorships are available through Mississippi Aquarium. Gulfport Main Street Association will mark the 12th anniversary of its View the Cruise tm on Saturday, October 2, starting with the Cardboard Cruiser Parade at 4 p.m. as cute mini-cruisers show off their skills at building cardboard cruisers. Gulfport High School and the First United Methodist Church will assist the mini-cruisers build their one-of-a-kind creations for the parade. Saturday at 7 p.m., a free concert hits the downtown big stage at 14th Street and 28th Avenue with Amanda Shaw & The Cute Guys, Rockin’ Doopsie, Jr., and the Zydeco Twisters. Concert-goers should bring their own lawn chairs to enjoy the music in seated comfort. On Sunday, October 3, at 9 a.m., a brand-new event, hosted by the First United Methodist Church, Cruising for Christ, offers a non-denominational worship service at Barksdale Pavilion in Jones Park. ![]()
